holy crap, wiki messages!

When I'd turned to the front page, the formatting was all fuctup. Turns out, hey, spam links! Clear it out and everything looks great again.

Tangentially, do you know if there's a way that we could set up a 'private' section of the wiki? As in only a specific set of Users could view and edit? That's probably past the scope of MediaWiki, and maybe might be best for a seperate wiki instance or install. The idea is that I'd like to set up a place for the MC to keep a running catalog of album adds, add dates, play tallies, etc -- and that's all information that various distributors and record labels don't need to know about. Any thoughts? — User:Jay 2006-09-20 13:00:54

I don't have a good solution yet, but interestingly enough, Pedro was asking me about exactly this topic today. He may end up writing an extension that does just that. If he doesn't end up doing it, either:
  1. We do all that through Drupal, which already has a fairly robust permission system but might need some kind of custom module in order to do this.
  2. I can try one of these options, though none of them are as good as full ACLs.
Honestly, though, I think that this is something Pedro can hack out quickly. There's a very simple system for hooking into MediaWiki's execution path, and one of the hooks is a "can the user do this?" function. Pedro's working with a different version, but I'm sure I can adapt it quickly.
By the way, you can sign your posts with ~~~~. I don't know where the little thing is that Wikipedia has that tells you that and gives you all the other editing shortcuts. Maybe I turned them off for some reason. —HorsePunchKid 13:33, 20 September 2006 (PDT)
