You will need to use Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher in order to rip directly to the .mp3 format.

We are using version 11 of Windows Media player throughout this tutorial.

Insert an audio CD into the drive, verify that Windows Media Player comes up. You may have to switch WMP to Library mode, click the Library icon near the upper right.

Make sure WMP is set to rip to the .mp3 format and in the desired quality.

In the pull down menu under section A, Rip settings,

Set Format = MP3
Set Audio Quality = 320 Kbps (Best Quality)

You can verify your settings by looking at More options. Your settings should be similar to those shown in the figure below.

Make a note of the directory listed in the section titled, Rip music to this location, and if you desire change the directory.

Now your settings should be fine. In the top image select B, Rip CD

Note: There's numerous programs you can use to rip CD's to an .mp3 format. Use whatever you're comfortable with and will rip with at least a 256 Kbps or higher quality. I use WMP since it searcxh extensive libraries and fill in much of the CD's metadata for me.
