[edit] What we're working on

WEFT.ORG
The website still requires a fair amount of work. See the to do list.
WIKI.WEFT.ORG
The wiki has seen a fair amount of use as different projects have started up and broadcasting was moved to the back studio. This has made it necessary to review its organization and structure and improve it as needed. See the to do list.

[edit] What we do day to day

Website Maintenance
Webgroup assures the correct operation of WEFT's main website and the WEFT Wiki. Webgroup ensures that domain names are renewed, hosting fees are paid, spammers are kept at bay, and lawn height is a max. 4".
Site and User Support
Webgroup members receive and process email sent to webgroup@weft.org, help@weft.org, and other support addresses by website users and visitors regarding website features and functionalities.
WEFT Email accounts
Webgroup administers email accounts hosted on the WEFT mail server.
WEFT Mailing Lists
The WEFT List Administrator <listadmin@weft.org> is one of the roles within the Webgroup, administering WEFT mailing lists, with the exception of those administered by the elected admins of those lists.
Web Presence, domain use
Webgroup monitors WEFT's presence on the web in terms of its ranking with internet search engines, ensuring that its correct domain name (weft.org NOT weftfm.org) is used throughout.
Training
Webgroup members offers training tot other WEFT members on how to use the website and the wiki both in person and via the website, as we help users use these resources effectively.

[edit] Past Accomplishments

Training
Conducted six training sessions for any interested WEFT staff, officer, or member on how to use the new website. Learn more on the Training_Sessions page.
Domain registration
Transfer of weft.org registration.
Design and Development of a New Website for WEFT.ORG
We moved all of the content of the old WEFT website into a new content management system (CMS) with a new design. Our goal was to have a fresher website with a more appealing design and fragrant background images. We used the CMS Drupal. The CMS allows more people to contribute the WEFT's online presence, not just web gurus.
Admining and customizing this wiki
Believe it or not, this is the same software behind everyone's favorite semi-authoritative online encyclopedia, Wikipedia.
Transfer and admin of the mailing lists
All of the mailing lists had to get transfered over to Dreamhost, including all of the archives. Not a trivial task! This process was complete by September 2006. Any lingering concerns should be directed to listadmin@weft.org.
Transfer of domain hosting
One Webgroup member (Jeff N.-O.) took on the task of transferring our domain hosting to a reliable, fast, secure server with lots of storage space and many bells and whistles we didn't even dream of beforehand.
Email Accounts
Created role-based email addresses for (almost) all staff and volunteers at the stations that had a reason to have one. If you've been overlooked email us!
Gathered WEFT community input
We asked WEFT staff, associate members, members, and listeners to give input on what they felt was important to have on the website.

[edit] Miscellaneous documentation

Here is some valuable documentation for your perusal, and peruse it you shall!

[edit] Brief history

The Webgroup was formed in the spring of 2006 to coordinate the moving of WEFT's websites and mailing lists to a new hosting provider and to carry out a redesign of the main website. The transition to DreamHost happened in the summer, and the new website went live at about 2AM on 2006-10-20.

The Webgroup was formally established as a board-appointed committee in November, 2007.
